Details

New and improved “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity for superior feel and comfort.

Note: Will not ship until January 2023

The Ben Franklin 2 “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity and is the most durable composite helmet you can buy because the color molded throughout "FYR-Glass" Shell (including ridges) resists chipping, cracking and peeling far better than even Kevlar reinforced shells.

The Low Rider helmets offer a newly designed suspension and headband cover system that allows both the Ben 2 to ride lower on your head which lowers the center of gravity therefore improving balance while it also reduces strain on the head, neck and shoulders. The long term result is that the Ben 2 is the most cost effective, lightweight composite traditional helmet. It offers comfortable fit, balanced feel, low head ride and light weight of "old" traditional helmets, but with NFPA required performance levels.

You simply can't beat Ben 2's fit, comfort, performance…or price.

  • New and improved “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity
  • 6 point suspension system provides a full 1.5” of adjustment for quick and easy custom fit
  • Stronger, lighter, and a great value with field proven proprietary shell material that provides superior heat protection with 39% more resistance to impact penetration than conventional fiberglass material
  • Internally protected suspension straps cannot be affected by external heat or flame
  • Gold plated eagle front holder won't bend and flop like hollow brass ones
  • Includes black Nomex earlaps and liner

Advantages:

  • Stronger, Lighter, and Less Expensive
  • Field Proven "FYR-Glass" Shell
  • Built-In Goggle Retention System
  • Best SCBA Interface with no need to adjust suspension

Great Helmet! Well worth the money

Posted by Verified Buyer on Jan 11th 2017

This is my first ben 2 low rider. I have used Bullard and fire dex in the past and the ben 2 is a far better helmet. Its very lightweight and is comfortable. Seems like it is well built, and it is a very appealing cosmetically. It sits well on my head. I am what I would consider an average build, and no issues of it sitting too high. The eagle is very well built compared to other helmets. I haven't found any issues with it as of yet, but I will update as time goes on. I bought the model with the flip downs. They come far enough down to protect my eyes and face. They are well built and sturdy. I am also glad that the flip downs are NFPA compliant as this was a selling point for me. I think this is a good product for the price. Not to mention that the warranty is great! I am not trying to make this one sided, but I cant find anything wrong or anything I don't like at this time.

Ok Helmet... but there are better...

Posted by Verified Buyer on Dec 21st 2015

I have bought a few BEN II's just because the local dealer keeps them in stock, and runs specials on them every now and again. They are also standard issue at my department. I think the popularity of this helmet is completely blown out of per portion. Individuals see FDNY wearing them, so they must be the best thing ever right? Not in my opinion. First Honeywell claims the BEN II has a low center of gravity... It does not. I have owned both the older model and the new ""Low Rider"" model and both seem to sit at the same level. Of the three BEN II's I have owned/ used, two of them have suffered from broken shield (device) mounts. The plastic shield mounts do not seem to withstand the heat very well. The suspension system I believe is the weakest link in the whole system. The straps always gave me hot spots after only a few minutes of wear, if the stitching didn't break first. Some positives for this helmet are: The eagle is extremely strong and durable. The new flip-downs the ""Low Riders"" ships with are also extremely durable and don't melt or suffer from spring fatigue like old school bourkes do. From personal experience at my department, I would say 80% of firefighters prefer other brands/ models of fire helmets.

    Popular but not worth it.

Posted by Verified Buyer on Feb 11th 2015

This product is popular because it is used by HFD and FDNY Etc... Everyone says its light in their reviews, however, until you wear a Cairns 1010 or 1044 you won't know better. This helmet can take damage and heat but all of them can if they are met by NFPA 1971. The suspension is separate and cheap; it fails all of the time. It rides too high no matter the settings and is just as heavy as a leather helmet. Cairns is the way to go . I have worn both inside fire and during trainings.

    good helmet bad suspension

Posted by Verified Buyer on Mar 28th 2014

Helmets are of good construction. still look good after 2 years of service. Shell has endured well. The suspension in over half of the helmets purchased by our department have failed. New design might have corrected this but the model we received in 2011-12 has this flaw. We just ordered new and hope the replacement suspension will be better quality

    Back Ordered

Posted by Verified Buyer on Feb 23rd 2014

Ordered two of these helmets in Dec. '12. I own three now. Use them everyday and love them. They do seem heavier but we put the Ben II, 1010, 1044, and 880 all on a scale and the Ben II came in 3/10 of a pound heavier than the lightest helmet. All around love this helmet. I gave a 1 star rating for the way the fire store handled the re-certification process. I give the helmet 5 stars.
